Social Studies release Holler Boys Video, Interview on Capital Public Radio!

Social Studies SF Popfest1Social Studies are back from a 10 day west coast tour, and are already back at work, plotting their October tour out to the CMJ festival and back. Their new album, Wind Up Wooden Heart, is hard-charging up the CMJ college radio charts, breaking the top 50 this week: #49 with a bullet!

Join Bart Davenport as he opens a special show in Sacramento this Sunday with avant-popster Aaron Ross and baroque pop duo DoomBird. DoomBird are celebrating their self-titled album release, and the show is a benefit for Concerts4Charity, a Sacramento non-profit that develops music and art education projects, benefiting musicians and artists throughout the Sacramento area.

The whole thing goes down at Harlow’s, this Sunday night, August 29th, and it’s only $5!

Agent Ribbons US Tour Starts Today!!!

Agent Ribbons embark on a full US tour starting today. Back in the van after one of their longest stays at home since they began touring a few years ago, the band is fired up and ready to share with you the songs from their upcoming album, Chateau Crone (out October 12, pre-orders available now!)

For those of you who haven’t seen Agent Ribbons play live, this is the perfect opportunity to catch the band before they head to Europe for much of October and November. And if you haven’t heard them yet, drop what you’re doing and listen to this:

Social Studies West Coast Tour Dates!

Social Studies West Coast TourAfter a phenomenal record release show last Saturday (thanks to excellent support acts Maus Haus, 60 Watt Kid, Montra, co-presenters Aquarius Records and KALX, and of course the excellent Rickshaw Stop!) Social Studies are hitting the road for a short West Coast run.

Their new album, Wind Up Wooden Heart, is a hard-charging tour de force matched only by the high energy Social Studies live show. Believe me when I say that this is a band you need to see live.

They hit Los Angeles later this week for a couple of club shows and a special performance at Origami Vinyl (our condolences to everyone planning for the LA Heardfest, canceled in the wake of LA crackdowns on public events following a couple of high profile rave meltdowns in the past couple of months) followed by a run up to Portland and Seattle next week, before returning for the very cool Rock Make Street Festival in San Francisco on August 22nd. Do not miss this.

Bart Davenport releases Chasing The Moon podcast, Voted Best of East Bay, and plays with Villagers & Greg Ashley

Hey SF!

Bart Davenport is back in town and he just got voted Best Local East Bay Musician for 2010 by readers of the East Bay Express! Congratulations Bart! This is not the first time he’s won this award, and it probably won’t be the last, though maybe next time we can shoot for “Best Local Act That Made It Big”! Move over Green Day!

Bart plays an all-ages show at San Francisco’s Rickshaw Stop tomorrow night (Thursday, July 29th) with the excellent Villagers (Domino Records) and another local hero, Greg Ashley.

This will be a great show, and you can get advance tickets here.

Finally, Bart’s Chasing the Moon podcast is now available to check out! CTM is a great local HD video series, capturing studio quality live performances in intimate settings. Past episodes have featured great local artists like John Vanderslice, Foxtails Brgade, Quinn Deveaux and Judgement Day. This stuff is well done and totally inspiring! Check out the series and subscribe to the podcast  here.

This is normally where I apologize to out of town readers for advertising a live show that they can’t possibly attend, but thanks to the fine folks who create the Chasing the Moon series, we can reproduce the live session below. Seriously, these are so well done it’s the next best thing to seeing the show live, and nobody will spill a beer on you either!

Today marks the official release date for the Social Studies debut album Wind Up Wooden Heart, and it is in stores now!

WUWH is one of our favorite releases of 2010, but don’t take our word for it! The album has been called “Infectiously Catchy” by NME.com, RCRD.LBL declares “Excellent. Social Studies make twee sound brawny. Who else does that?“, and 7×7 Magazine says “Listen once and be mesmerized by catchy hooks and mellifluous choruses. Antenna Farm Welcomes Agent Ribbons!

Agent RibbonsWe are pleased to announce the newest addition to the Antenna Farm roster, Austin’s (by way of Sacramento) Agent Ribbons!

Agent Ribbons isn’t just a band–it’s a tree house club of post-feminist dreamers trying to find their place in the scheme of things, like a hand-sewn and lovingly-crafted garment in a modern, disposable world. Musically, an impeccable taste in influences (from the Zombies to Eartha Kitt, The Breeders to the Velvet Underground, and beyond…) helps them find a sound that is both classically informed and yet innovative and fresh sounding. They miraculously reconcile seemingly-unrelated genres and make it seem easy, sounding something like Girls in the Garage doing the Three Penny Opera.

Agent Ribbons have been doing their thing for a few years now, and since 2007, the band has toured the U.S. more times than they can remember. Some of those tours were with big national acts like Camera Obscura, Cake, Detroit Cobras and Girl in a Coma, and the rest were done vigilante-style in a Chevy Astro. A move in 2010 saw the Ribbons pull up their Sacto stakes and move to Austin, which they now call home when not hitting the road and jamming econo.

Antenna Farm Records is pleased to present Chateau Crone, the upcoming sophomore album from Agent Ribbons. Releasing October 12th, the album was recorded by Manny Nieto (The Breeders, HEALTH) and Scott McChane (editor of Tape Op) and is the most accomplished Agent Ribbons recording yet. It is also a manifesto of sorts, a call to arms and open invitation for all aspiring Chateau Cronies to join them on their future Crone estate, and each CD comes with a 24 page booklet outlining plans for the Chateau as well as a temporary tattoo with the Chateau Crone crest.

Positive press is already rolling in, and the first single from Chateau Crone is featured this week on NPR’s All Songs Considered. You can listen here, or check out the tune below.
